A Damascus-steel cup with a surface you can actually feel
The Gin-nezu finish adds sand blasting and further polishing to SUWADA's 75 ml Damascus cup. The result is a subtle three-dimensional surface that follows the waves of the layered steel rather than covering them.
What it feels like
- Cool metal in the hand: immediately different from ceramic sake ware.
- Raised and recessed pattern: the 3D treatment lets your fingers register the Damascus waves as well as your eyes.
- Compact 75 ml scale: intended for a small pour and slow drinking.
How the finish is made
The cup is first formed from layered Damascus steel—a demanding process because the material can crack or distort. The surface is then sand blasted and polished to bring out physical relief around the pattern.
Variation is part of the object
No two Damascus patterns are identical. Your cup will have its own arrangement of waves and its own small visual differences from the photographs.
