Japanese Wavy Peeler with reversible blade Japanese Wavy Peeler with reversible blade

What Is a Wavy Peeler Used For?

A wavy peeler is used to make thin vegetable sheets with a ridged or wavy surface. It is not simply a decorative version of a normal peeler: the blade changes the surface texture of the cut, which can add visual detail and texture to salads, garnishes and everyday vegetable preparation.

What does a wavy peeler actually do?

Instead of producing a smooth flat strip, the wavy blade creates a repeating textured surface as it moves across the vegetable. The SUWADA Japanese Wavy Peeler is designed specifically for these wavy vegetable sheets.

What vegetables can you use it on?

Use it on vegetables that you would normally peel into thin sheets and that are firm enough to pass cleanly over the blade. The exact result depends on the shape, firmness and size of the vegetable.

Is the wavy blade only for looks?

No. Appearance is part of the reason to use it, but the blade also changes the physical surface of the vegetable sheet. Whether that is useful depends on the dish: if you only need to remove skin, a straight peeler is the simpler choice.

Can left-handed cooks use the SUWADA wavy peeler?

Yes. On the current Pro Wavy Peeler, the blade position can be switched for left- or right-hand use.

When Does a Japanese Knife Need Professional Repair?

Professional repair is worth considering for deep chips, broken tips, major thinning, distorted single-bevel geometry, deep rust, loose handles or damage that would require heavy material removal.

Can You Fix a Broken Japanese Knife Tip?

Often yes. A small broken tip can usually be reshaped by grinding the spine and edge into a new point, but larger breaks remove more steel and can change blade profile, balance and usefulness.
