Ownership & care

Made in Japan

Clean and dry after use. Stainless steel improves corrosion resistance but still benefits from regular care.

Questions about this tool

Should I choose carbon steel or stainless steel secateurs?
Carbon steel gives the traditional Japanese tool feel and benefits from careful drying and a light protective oil after use. Stainless steel improves corrosion resistance and is easier to live with in damp conditions, but it still benefits from regular cleaning and care.
How should I clean and store Japanese secateurs?
Remove sap and dirt after use, dry the tool thoroughly and keep carbon-steel surfaces lightly protected with suitable oil before storage. Do not leave the tool wet or store it with plant residue on the blades.
Can Japanese secateurs be sharpened?
Yes. Good secateurs are designed to be maintained, but sharpening should preserve the existing cutting geometry rather than changing it. Clean the blade first, use a suitable fine sharpening stone and avoid grinding surfaces that are meant to mate closely. If the edge is badly damaged or you are unsure of the bevel, professional sharpening is the safer option.
